Panther women take down Cardinals

KENTWOOD, Mich. - The swimming and diving teams hosted a dual meet against Saginaw Valley State on Saturday in a tune up for the GLIAC Championships in February. It was senior day for both teams and the women's team beat the Cardinals 179-119 while the men's team dropped a 159-135 decision.

Dylan Thiesen was able to score 451.64 in the one-meter diving to make his 11-dive national cut and officially get his ticket to the NCAA championships in March. Anna VanHaitsma had a personal best in the one-meter diving with a score of 164.10 and Grace Overbeek in the three-meter diving also had a personal best with a score of 207.38.

Rebecca Wallis hit the national "B" cut in the 200 and 500 free events. Wallis swam to a time of 1:52.41 to win the 200 free and also won the 500 free with a time of 5:00.63. Angie Lorena Gomez Garcia won the 1,650 free with a time of 17:35.60. Alicja Pinkowicz won the 100 back with a time of 58.66. Mallory Brownrigg won the 100 breast with a time of 1:05.92. Emelie Hellgren won the 50 free in a time of 24.21. Hellgren also captured the 100 free with a time of 53.07. Ella Wagner won the 200 breast with a time of 2:24.10.

Marcel Setlak picked up the win in the 100 back with a time of 50.26. David Szczygiel swam his way to victory in the 200 butterfly at 1:51.57. Kevin Mills in the fastest event of the 50 free touched the wall at 21.03. Setlak made it two wins in the meet with a time of 1:49.88 in the 200 back. Szczygiel won in the 200 IM with a time of 1:54.83.
