DU's quick score leads to 1-0 shutout over NMU on Senior Day

CALEDONIA, Mich. - Haley Diekevers logged her fifth goal of 2024 to help Davenport University women's soccer (6-3-4, 4-2-3 GLIAC) extend its current win streak to three-straight matches after a 1-0 shutout win over the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Senior Day.

Elizabeth Wolter has mounted the pressure of the starting keeper role in her freshman campaign as a team-total five saves against NMU resulted in her fifth clean-sheet victory as a Panther. These numbers put Wolter in a tie for No. 6 all-time for most shutouts and No. 7 all-time for most wins by a keeper in one season. Gabby Scholten tallied her fourth assist this year as she pushed the ball from near midfield into the attacking third and found her teammate open for the early goal (6'), marking Diekevers' fourth game-winner of 2024 for her second in the last seven days. The senior forward is now in a tie for fourth in program history for game-winners in a single season and three scores shy of tying her eight goals scored (t-No. 10) during her freshman campaign.

It was nothing short of a defensive scheme for DU as the program hadn't defeated the Wildcats since 2019. With stand-tall defensive efforts from multiple Panthers, including Scholten, Izabelle Olsson, Brynn White, and Julia Tamasy, the team snapped a four-match losing streak against NMU - serving the former No. 1 GLIAC team its third loss this season.
