Walsh 65, Davenport 50 (Nov. 9)
The Davenport women’s basketball team opened their 2024-25 season on a neutral court against Walsh and were defeated 65-50 by the Cavaliers. The Cavaliers used a strong first and third quarter to outscore the Panthers by 20. Davenport did win the second quarter 14-9 and tied Walsh in the fourth quarter at 18-18.
Nevaeh Williams scored a career-high 11 points in 30 minutes and made her only three-point attempt. She was also 4-of-6 at the free throw line and had four steals to lead the team and two assists. Lillee Gustafson matched Williams with 11 points and went 5-of-6 at the charity stripe. She also led the team with eight rebounds (five offensive) and blocked four shots. She tied her career high in blocks which has now happen in three different games. Jaci Walker became the third Panther with 11 points going 4-of-6 from the field and made her only three-point attempt. She also had five rebounds and three steals. Davenport finished with 12 steals as a team.
Isabel Lindo chipped in six points in 32 minutes and also had three rebounds. Jada McCree scored six points, both of three-point makes, and had two steals in 21 minutes. Davenport shot it well from the free throw line going 16-of-21 for the game.
Ohio Dominican 53, Davenport 46 (Nov. 10)
The Davenport women’s basketball team came out in the first quarter on Sunday and looked like they were going to potentially run away with a victory over Ohio Dominican. DU led 21-6 after the first quarter shooting 7-of-17 from the floor and 6-of-7 at the free throw line. ODU battled back in the second quarter as Davenport hit a cold streak. Ohio Dominican outscored Davenport 16-5 in the quarter and made it a game again down 26-22 at the break.
The third quarter and fourth quarter saw Davenport scored 10 points in each while ODU managed to score 31 second-half points to come away with the comeback win. Davenport shot 33.3 percent in the third quarter and 23.5 percent in the fourth quarter. Gabby Stare had a big second half for Ohio Dominican and led all scorers with 16 points going 7-of-15 from the floor with seven rebounds. Brynn Mullet added 15 points and six rebounds while going 6-of-6 at the free throw line.
Davenport finished 10-of-12 at the free throw line as Jaci Walker went 4-of-4 and finished with a team-high 10 points. She also led the team with eight rebounds and blocked two shots. Lillee Gustafson added nine points, seven rebounds, and three blocked shots. Nevaeh Williams scored seven points and led the team with four steals. Isabel Lindo contributed six points and also had six rebounds.
