DU closes 2024 in first round of NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament

LEBANON, Ill. - Reaching the national stage for the second time in program history, Davenport University men's soccer finished its season in the first round of the 2024 NCAA Division II Tournament.

The Panthers were ranked No. 7 in the Super-Region 3 bracket and were poised against No. 10 Fort Hays St. for the first-ever matchup against the Tigers. It was a tightly contested battle throughout the 90 minutes, as scoring opportunities for Easton Lopez, Drew Matyunas, Henry Lopez, Abraham Samukai, and Kirby Eggers were stopped short of a score.

Key defensive stops by Cam Power, Josh Cook, and George Deveau highlighted the consistent leadership by the upperclassmen seen throughout 2024, as Beau Hudd made it difficult for the opponent by making seven saves in the freshman keeper's national tournament debut. An unlucky break just minutes into the second half saw Fort Hays tally the first and only score of the match, giving the opponent the 1-0 victory as the Panthers continued to press until the final seconds.

DU finished the season 9-8-4 overall for its third-most wins in a season as a full member of the NCAA, showcasing a promising future for the program.
