Panthers Suffer First Loss of Spring Season

Box Score MIDLAND, Mich. - The Davenport University women's tennis team fell to Northwood 5-2 on Saturday evening (Feb. 10) at the Greater Midland Tennis Center.

NU got out to the early advantage, securing the first point of the match after winning two of the three doubles matchups. For the Panthers, Hermon Mikael and Skye Vandeleur won at No. 2 doubles over Yuliia Khmara and Danijela Danilovic 7-6.

Amy Bloch and Willemien Coetzee fell at No. 1 doubles to Savannah Matuszewski and Rafaella Platsiota 6-2, while Isabella Carofano and Louise Hosking lost to Brigitte Gomez and Regan Fales 6-1 at No. 3 doubles.

Mikael found success in singles as well, defeating Matuszewski 6-3, 7-5 at No. 3 singles. Slotted at No. 5 singles, Carofano defeated Khmara 6-2, 1-6, 7-5 to secure the second point of the day for DU.

Vandeleur (No. 4 singles) and Hosking (No. 6 singles) battled hard for DU, going three sets with their opponents, but could not come out on top.

At No. 1 singles, Bloch fell to Platsiota 7-6, 6-2, while Coetzee lost to Danilovic 6-1, 7-5 in No. 2 singles.

The Panthers will return home on Friday (Feb. 16) taking on Lawrence Tech at 11:30 a.m. at the Grand Rapids Racquet Club in Grand Rapids, Mich.
