Panthers Topped by Tiffin to Conclude Weekend

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University women's tennis team dropped its final match of the weekend, falling to Tiffin 7-0 on Sunday (Feb. 18) at the MVP SportsPlex.

At No. 1 doubles for the Panthers (6-2, 0-0 GLIAC), the tandem of Willemien Coetzee and Amy Bloch fell in a tightly contested matchup, falling 7-5 to Maeva Maxch and Anaelle Lepinay. Skye Vandeleur and Hermon Mikael were also in a battle at No. 2 doubles but were defeated 7-6 (5) by Emily Barrett and Jemimah Choi, as the Dragons (7-0, 0-0 G-MAC) took the doubles point.

In singles action, Bloch (No. 1) took the first set over Maxch 6-3. However, Maxch responded with wins in both the second and third sets (6-3, 6-0) to win the matchup.

In a similar fashion, Vandeleur (No. 4) took the first set of her matchup 6-3 before falling to Choi 6-3, 10-6 in the ensuing sets.

At No. 5 singles, Isabella Carofano went the distance with Jessica Peace, winning the first set 7-5, but could not secure the victory, falling 6-4, 10-6 in the final two sets.

The Panthers will be back in action on Thursday (Feb. 22) at 11:30 a.m. in Grand Rapids, Mich. at the Grand Rapids Racquet Club against Lewis.
