Panthers Continue Spring Break Winning Streak

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Davenport University women's tennis team took down St. Bonaventure 4-3 on Tuesday morning at the USTA National Campus. The Panthers are a perfect 3-0 on their spring break trip, winning three consecutive matches and moving to 9-3 on the year.

All three doubles tandems got a win to give DU the critical doubles point. At No. 1 singles, Amy Bloch and Willenien Coetzee defeated Anastasia Gubanova and Isabella Venter 6-3. Hermon Mikael and Skye Vandeleur (No. 2 doubles), as well as Isabella Carofano and Louise Hosking (No. 3 doubles), each downed their opponents 6-1.

Carofano picked up the first singles win of the day for the Panthers, playing at the No. 5 position and beating Kashish Bate 6-3, 6-2. 

After falling behind in the second set, Hosking (No. 6) battled back to defeat Kelly Barnes 6-3, 7-5, tying the match at 3-3.

The match came down to a three-set thriller between Coetzee and Gubanova facing off at No. 2 singles. It came down to the third set, where Coetzee edged Gubanova 7-5 to clinch the match, giving DU the victory.

The Panthers will conclude their time in Orlando, Fla tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 28, taking on Rose-Hulman at 10:30 a.m. at the USTA National Campus.
