Panthers wrap up spring trip with a split of matches

ORLANDO, Fla. - The spring trip concluded for the Davenport men's tennis team on Wednesday with a win against Rose-Hulman (5-4) and a loss against Florida Southern (4-0). The Rose-Hulman match was played under NCAA Division III rules where every matchup receives a point instead of NCAA Division II where doubles is one point for winning two of three matchups. The Florida Southern was a clinch format where once the fourth point was conceded then the other matchups are halted since four points is needed for a team victory.

The Rose-Hulman nail-biter went in order for doubles as the Panthers trailed 2-1. Carlos Henriquez and Simone Pacciolla won 8-1 at the one spot. Jose Brenes and Max Dion competed at the two spot and lost 8-2. Vance Muenzer and Reid Reimink at the three spot lost 8-6.

The Fightin' Engineers took a 3-1 lead at six singles as Chris Lian got the better of Muenzer by scores of 6-2, 6-2. Henriquez put the match one step closer at three singles with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Grant Padadowski. Jan Stolin at one singles won 6-3, 6-1 against Elijah Hadler to tie the match at 3-3. Pacciolla made it three straight singles wins at the four flight with a shutout of Rhian Seneviratne (6-0, 6-0). Subash Paramasivam closed it out at two singles (6-4, 6-1) against Owen Reynolds. Jose Brenes lost his matchup at five singles against Ervin Perkowski (7-6, 6-1).

Florida Southern quickly took the doubles point as Matteo Feggi and Edoardo Melindo at three doubles for the Mocs won 6-0 against Marius Pion and Brenes. Chris Fok Kow and Mario Garoz at one doubles beat Paramasivam and Stolin 6-4. The two doubles was tied at 4 before going unfinished because the point was clinched.

Garoz at three singles beat Henriquez 6-0, 6-2 for the second team point. Bosko Boskovic at five singles got the third team point winning 6-2, 6-0 over Brenes. Pion at four singles lost 7-5, 6-0 against Matthew Hewitt to close out the match.
