Panthers Down Cornerstone 4-3

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -  The Davenport University women's tennis team took down Cornerstone 4-3 on Saturday (March 16) at the Grand Rapids Racquet Club.

The Panthers fell behind in the match 1-0 after dropping two of the three doubles matchups. Willemien Coetzee and Amy Bloch picked up the only doubles win for DU, defeating Ximena Matamoros and Renata Castillo 7-5 at No. 1 doubles.

Skye Vandeleur tied the match at 1-1 for Davenport, picking up the first singles win of the match over Camila Ibarra, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 4 singles.

Slotted at No. 2 singles, Bloch secured a 6-3, 6-0 win over Castillo and the Panthers gained a 2-1 edge.

Isabella Carofano gave DU its third point of the day with a 6-7, 6-0, 6-1 victory over Sarah Daza at No. 3 singles.

Playing at No. 5 singles, Louise Hosking downed Jadyn Koenes to clinch the match for Davenport, securing a 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 win.

The Panthers will begin conference play on Friday (March 22) against Ferris State at 11:30 a.m. at the Grand Rapids Racquet Club in Grand Rapids, Mich.
