CALEDONIA, Mich. - The 2024-25 season started in fine fashion as the Davenport men's tennis team blanked Calvin University 7-0 at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex courts on Wednesday. The Panthers were debuting several newcomers to the roster as four of the six singles were freshmen or transfers into the program.
It all started with doubles and Davenport took care of all three matches.
Jan Stolin and
Reuben Bakker teamed up at No. 1 doubles for a 6-4 win.
Rudiger Dusselberg and
Jaden Bender fared even better at No. 2 doubles with a 6-2 win. Likewise, it was
Daniel Calver and
Jose Brenes who won 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.
The Panthers finished off all six singles matches in straight set wins.
Simone Pacciolla at No. 6 was rested after not playing doubles and cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Noah Yi. The closest outcome came at No. 4 singles as Dusselberg defeated Mario Neto by scores of 6-4, 6-4. Stolin conquered No. 1 singles over Rodrigo Alipio by scores of 6-2, 6-2.Â
