DU Wraps Up Opening Week of Fall Action

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CALEDONIA, Mich. - The Davenport University women's tennis team competed in a pair of events to open up fall action, hosting the Davenport Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 10, before Hosting Calvin on Wednesday, Sept. 11.

The Panthers took on opponents from both Grand Valley State and Ferris State at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex. Overall, DU tallied a 7-5 record in singles action, while picking up a pair of wins in doubles play. 

Leading the way in singles was Erin Hack, who won both of her singles matches, not dropping a set in either matchup. Sienna Opray also picked up two singles wins, one over Yara Madi (Ferris State (Ferris State) and the other over Neus Ramos (GVSU).

Skye Vandeleur, Kumiko Yamaguchi and Angelica Montano also picked up a singles victory in the season opener. 

The duo of Amy Bloch and Hack took home an  8-3 win over Aimee Reynoso and Katherine Earnest (FSU). Vandeleur and Opray teamed up to take down Kennedy Dumas and Maria Hernandez (FSU) 8-4 in doubles play.

How it Happened
Davenport got out to a 1-0 lead in the match after taking two of the three doubles matches. The Vandeleur and Opray tandem defeated Marina Ribeiro and Ryan Morey 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Bloch and Hack picked up a 6-1 victory over Catherine Grissom and Tessa Holman.

Bloch got things going in singles action, sweeping Maggie Shoemaker 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Opray pushed the DU advantage to 3-0 after a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles against Grissom. 

Hack clinched the match, as she defeated Ribeiro 6-2, 6-4  to give Davenport its fourth and final point of the match and earned their first victory of the fall season.

The Panthers will compete this weekend in the ITA Midwest Regional, hosted by Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich.
