• Davenport had one of their best performances to date last Saturday in a narrow 32-31 loss to then No. 11 Central Missouri. It was the closest margin of defeat against a nationally-ranked team since a 19-14 setback on Oct. 20, 2018 at home against No. 8 Grand Valley State. They were looking for their second win over a nationally-ranked team with the other coming against No. 23 Saginaw Valley State (29-28) on Oct. 29, 2022 on the road.
• Davenport had their nine-game September win streak snapped against Central Missouri but had a few notable performances. Mike O'Horo threw for 327 yards and three touchdowns while also leading the team with 38 rushing yards. Myren Harris had his first 100-yard receiving game as a Panther with six catches for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Harris had 119 yards after the catch and also rushed for 10 yards. Xavier Marquez saw his first action of the season and tied his career high with nine tackles with two tackles for loss, one sack, and one pass breakup. The defense allowed 349 passing yards to reigning Harlon Hill trophy winner Zach Zebrowski below his career average of 403 passing yards and his one passing touchdown was a career low in a Mule uniform. Freshman LaAngelo Bell was the unsung hero for UCM with the first three rushing touchdowns of his career. 
• William Jewell has had one of the best turnarounds in NCAA Division II in 2024 with a 3-0 record after going 2-8 during the 2023 season. First-year head coach Jason Ambroson has the Cardinals heading in the right direction and the team will be playing in their home opener after three straight road wins to start this season. It will be their first game on campus at Greene Stadium since Nov. 5, 2022 against UIndy due to construction, and the team played all of their 2023 home games at nearby Liberty North High School. The Cardinals have improved in large part due to being disciplined. William Jewell leads the GLVC and ranks third in Division II in fewest penalties per game (3.33). The rushing attack has been potent through three games averaging 216.3 yards which is ninth nationally.
   

• Davenport has been a quick start team through the first three games outscoring their opponents 45-19 in the first half. In addition, they have a 24-3 edge in the first quarter. If you go back to last year, over the last 13 games, Davenport has allowed just 13 points in the first quarter which has been a recipe for success. On the flip side, they will need to make adjustments in the second half as they have been outscored 44-27 this season.
• One key stat that the Panthers have improved upon over recent seasons is third-down conversion percentage. Davenport currently ranks No. 2 in the GLIAC and No. 27 in NCAA Division II at 45.2 percent. The Panthers were 6-of-13 on third downs versus Central Missouri a week ago.

• Davenport and William Jewell met for the first time last season in Caledonia, Mich. with the Panthers scoring their season high in points during the 55-27 victory on Sept. 23, 2023. The Panthers held a major advantage in total yards (463-218) and featured a balanced offense with 239 passing and 224 rushing yards. The Davenport special teams played a big role as Nick Pulley returned a blocked punt 39 yards for a score in the second quarter and Demetrius Garrett took a punt back 70 yards to the house in the fourth quarter. Myren Harris threw a 33-yard touchdown pass and also rushed 12 times for 129 yards, including a 75-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. It was the longest rush in school history. CJ Ward completed 20-of-36 through the air for 186 yards and three touchdowns, but was sacked five times for a minus-47 yard total. Geemontae Peck had five tackles including three tackles for loss and two sacks.
