CHICAGO, Ill. - GLIAC newcomer Roosevelt looked like the experienced veterans on Saturday afternoon as Davenport was defeated 87-48. In the first meeting as GLIAC members, the Lakers used powerful second and fourth quarters to secure their fifth overall and third conference win of the season. Davenport led for the first half of the first quarter before Roosevelt took their first lead at 9-8 with 4:55 left in the opening quarter. DU regained a 13-10 lead on a
Jada McCree three-pointer a few minutes later, but Roosevelt would take an 18-15 lead into the second quarter.
RU used a 11-3 run in the first five minutes of the second quarter to take their first double-digit lead at 29-19. The Lakers continued their run by scoring 10 more straight points to lead 39-19 with 52 seconds until halftime. DU shot just 16.7 percent (2-for-12) in the second quarter and committed eight turnovers, while RU shot 36.8 percent (7-for-19) and committed three turnovers. Roosevelt allowed zero specialty points in the second quarter.
Davenport also struggled offensively in the fourth quarter shooting 13.3 percent (2-for-15), while Roosevelt went 9-for-19 at 47.4 percent. The Lakers finished 22-for-27 at the free throw line compared to 5-for-10 by the Panthers. Luka Malinka led RU with 21 points.
Nevaeh Williams led Davenport with 13 points and grabbed five rebounds.
Isabel Lindo scored 11 points and
Deyonce Thompson added 10 points and eight rebounds.
