Each team won on home ice this weekend as Davenport and Grand Valley State met in GL6 conference action. The Lakers ranked No. 20 in ACHA Division I and unranked Davenport dueled in a pair of hard-hitting games which began on Friday at Patterson Ice Center. Davenport used a potent power play in a 6-2 win over the Lakers. GVSU came back on Saturday night in Hudsonville for the 4-2 win. The season series is also even now at two games apiece.
Davenport scored four power play goals on Friday evening and also limited the Lakers to 1-of-8 on their power play chances.
Ryder McMillen scored twice in the second period to give him 13 goals this season. He also assisted on a goal by
Peter Stojcevski in the third period for a three-point night. Stojcevski had a four-point game with three assists to accompany his power play goal at 4:05 of the third period.
Trent Benedict scored his 16th goal of the season on the team's fourth power play goal at 14:09.
Robert McLaughlin made it 6-2 at 17:27 of the final period as the Panthers would score the last four goals of the game.
Kyler Lowden got the start in net for the Panthers and responded with 23 saves. Both teams recorded 25 shots on goal in the contest.
On Saturday, the Panthers scored both of their goals on the power play. However, the Lakers scored four times at even strength to pull out the win. Carson Wood scored the only goal of the first period at 2:55 for GVSU from Yarne Vaerewyck and Scott Neitzel. Trailing 2-0, it was
Kristers Klavins scoring his seventh goal of the season with the man advantage at 9:41 of the second period from McMillen and Benedict. Chase Tallaire made it 3-1 at 10:32 to regain the momentum for the Lakers. McMillen continued his torrid weekend with a goal at 18:08 from Klavins and
Ryan Blackburn. Carson Korte scored the only third period goal from the Lakers at 10:01. Lowden got another start in net for DU and made 30 saves.
