Chatfield Strikes Early, Bulldogs Respond Late in 1-1 Draw

CALEDONIA, Mich. — Davenport University and Ferris State University played to a 1-1 draw on Sunday at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex. Davenport struck first with a goal in the first half, but Ferris State equalized in the second half. Both teams had ample opportunities, with Davenport recording 18 shots and Ferris State 20. The goalkeepers were kept busy, as Davenport's goalie tallied seven saves while Ferris State managed six.

Davenport capitalized on early pressure to take the lead in the 17th minute with a goal by Ella Chatfield, assisted by Megan Malek. The Panthers' aggressive play was reflected in their four corner kicks to the Bulldogs' three, and they maintained a steady attack with nine shots on goal, four of which were saved by Ferris State's goalkeeper, Korinne Ihrke. The Bulldogs' attempts were thwarted by Elizabeth Wolter, who recorded three saves, preserving a 1-0 advantage for Davenport at the end of the first half.

Ferris State equalized in the 82nd minute with a goal by Bella Vallone, assisted by Grace Sampson, ultimately closing the second half at 1-1. Davenport's defense, led by Wolter, was tested frequently, making four saves throughout the half. Despite the consistent pressure, Davenport managed several offensive attempts but failed to convert, highlighted by Madison Fant's shot in the 62nd minute. The half was marked by physical play, with both teams committing multiple fouls, including a yellow card for Davenport in the 75th minute.

Wolter recorded seven saves, facing 20 shots and conceding just one goal. Chatfield scored Davenport's only goal, converting her sole shot on target. Malek added an assist, contributing to the team's offensive efforts. Sofia Capoccia led the team in shots with three, including one on goal.

Ihrke played a vital role for the Bulldogs, recording six saves in goal, with five saves in the first half and one in the second, allowing just one goal across 18 shots faced. Vallone contributed offensively with the team's only goal on two shots, one of which was on target. Sampson also made her presence felt by assisting on the goal and leading the team with four shots, two of which were on goal.
