Panthers Fall on the Road to #14 Ferris State

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - After three non conference matches, the Davenport University women's volleyball team resumed GLIAC play on Thursday evening. The Panthers fell to No. 14 Ferris State in straight sets at the Ewigleben Sports Arena. 

Leading the way for Davenport in the loss was Abby Alan with seven kills, two digs and one total block. Madison Berry added 17 assists and nine digs for the Panthers, while Hayley Carr anchored the defense with 10 digs.

A kill from Morgan Tydings in the first set gave the Panthers a brief lead at 3-2. Despite their efforts, including a kill from Alan and another from Swan, the Bulldogs regained momentum to move ahead. As the set continued, Davenport kept the score tight with contributions from multiple players, including a kill by Amelia Werner to tie it at 10-10. However, Ferris State ended on a 15-4 rally to take the 25-14 victory.

Davenport faced a challenging second set as Ferris State made an early push, opening with a 11-4 lead. The Panthers put together a late surge featuring kills from Swan and Tydings, narrowing the gap to 18-11. Supported by steady play from Berry, Davenport added key points through kills from Kaitlin Jordan and Werner. However, Ferris State capitalized on Davenport's errors and concluded the set with a decisive run, closing it at 25-15 in favor of the home team.

A brief rally by Davenport, including another kill from Alan and an ace by Carr, narrowed the DU deficit to 6-4 in the third set. Despite a kill from Jordan and a service error by Ferris State offering Davenport some points, the Bulldogs continued to press forward, reaching an 18-8 margin.Swan's pair of kills and a Ferris State error closed the gap slightly, but Ferris State's consistent attack  widened the lead to 23-11. Davenport managed a final point from a Ferris State service error, but a service ace from Dylann Kelly concluded the set with Ferris State securing a 25-12 victory.
