CHICAGO, Ill. — Roosevelt edged Davenport 1-0 on Sunday at Morris Field. Despite the Panthers' 18 shots, with 11 on target, Roosevelt's goalkeeper recorded 10 saves to secure a shutout victory. Roosevelt tallied the game's only goal in the first half, which proved to be decisive in the tightly contested match.
The first half began with a strong defensive display from the Panthers, as
Beau Hudd made several key saves to keep the game level through the initial stages. Despite consistent efforts, including shots by
Charlie Davis and
Maxamillian Postlewait, the Panthers were unable to convert their chances, as Eric Carvajal made multiple stops for Roosevelt.
Midway through the half, the Panthers continued to press, with
Easton Lopez and
Jordy Rodriguez both challenging the opposing goalkeeper. However, it was Roosevelt who found the back of the net in the 44th minute, with Matthew Goulding scoring with an assist from Luca Swinton. The half closed with the Panthers trailing 1-0.
The second half began with Hudd making a crucial save against a shot from Roosevelt's Caco Fernandez, maintaining the intensity early on.
Henry Lopez's effort on goal in the 59th minute was saved by Carvajal, setting the tone for a competitive second half.
