LEMONT, Ill. - The Davenport women's golf team had their best finish of the season at the Lewis Flyer Intercollegiate, which concluded on Tuesday at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club. The 54-hole tournament was split into 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 holes on Tuesday. Davenport was just two strokes shy of the school record with a 927 and placed second as a team. Lewis finished with a 913 to capture their own tournament title.
Davenport had four golfers inside the top 10 on the leaderboard.
Venetia Chap placed third with a total of 226, which was four strokes shy of the school record. Her afternoon round on Monday was a thing of beauty as she shot a two-under par 70. It was just one stroke off her own school record accomplished twice last season as a freshman.
Lauren Gervais tied for fourth with a total of 231 and improved in each round finishing with rounds of 82-75-74.
ThaiLee Gerding took sixth place with a score of 233 and had an opening round 74 in the morning on Monday.
Melissa Walker tied for ninth with rounds of 78-78-82.
Hannah Robinson tied for 24th with rounds of 81-82-84.
The team will conclude fall play this weekend when they host the DU Panther Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at Stonehedge North Golf Course in Augusta, Mich.
