Davenport Rides Davis Goal and Hudd Shutout into Postseason Play

CALEDONIA, Mich.Davenport closed out the regular season on a high note Sunday afternoon, earning a gritty 1-0 victory over St. Cloud State. The win sends the Panthers into the GLIAC tournament set to begin Nov. 9.

The decisive goal came in the 22nd minute, when Charlie Davis buried a chance to give Davenport an early lead. Though scoring opportunities were limited, the Panthers made their first-half breakthrough count and carried that 1-0 edge into halftime.

St. Cloud State nearly found an equalizer midway through the opening half, as Matthew Greenland unleashed a curling shot that rattled off the crossbar with 28:21 on the clock. The near-miss briefly lifted the Huskies' momentum before the play was halted for an offside call, keeping the Panthers' advantage intact.

From there, goalkeeper Beau Hudd stood tall, anchoring the back line with four saves before the break and eight total on the day. St. Cloud State kept the pressure on, firing 15 shots, but Hudd and the defense refused to break.

In the second half, Davenport controlled much of the play, producing 12 shots and six corner kicks while pushing for an insurance goal. Davis continued to drive the attack, finishing with six total shots with three on target. Henry Lopez added another effort on frame. Despite the offensive surge, the Panthers couldn't add to their lead, but their defensive composure sealed the shutout.

For SCSU, goalkeeper Ramy Atia made five saves and faced 13 total shots, keeping his team within striking distance. Greenland led the Huskies' offense with three shots, all on goal, while Yuken Harmon, Elliot Hadley, Andrés García, and Alex Tiedt each chipped in two attempts apiece.

With the 1-0 win, Davenport caps the regular season with a shutout and carries a wave of confidence into the GLIAC postseason tournament, while the Huskies of St. Cloud State close out their 2025 campaign.
