ALLENDALE, Mich. - The women's basketball team dropped an 80-32 decision at No. 2 Grand Valley State on Tuesday in their final road game of the 2024-25 season.
The Laker defense was stout right from the tip as GVSU allowed just two Panther points in the first quarter. Davenport went 1-for-12 from the floor in the opening quarter and scored at 5:22 on a layup by
Lillee Gustafson. GVSU led 7-0 before the basket by Gustafson and then led 26-2 by Rylie Bisballe scored with eight seconds left in the quarter. GVSU went 9-for-19 in the first quarter including 4-for-10 from behind the arc.
Davenport had their highest scoring quarter in the second with 13 points. The Panthers shot 50 percent from the floor (6-for-12). DU did not shoot a free throw in the first half and finished the game 2-for-2 as Gustafson made her attempts in the third quarter. In the second half, DU went 7-for-26 from the field. DU finished 28 percent overall and 2-for-13 from behind the arc for the game.
MacKenzie Bisballe led GVSU with 17 points and had seven rebounds. Rylie Bisballe scored 13 points and grabbed six boards.
Nevaeh Williams led the Panthers with 11 points and also had six rebounds and two steals. Gustafson in 26 minutes collected a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. It was the second double-double in her career against Grand Valley State. She was also one rebound shy on two other occasions in her career. The Panthers were without the services of leading scorer
Ellie Toney.
The Panthers will wrap up the season on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 5:30 PM against Roosevelt at the DU Student Center.
