Panthers split a pair of matches to begin spring break trip

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ORLANDO, Fla. - The Davenport men's tennis team had an opposite ends of the spectrum experience to begin their spring break trip at the USTA National Campus in central Florida. The team breezed past Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras 7-0 on Sunday and then lost for the first time this season (9-1) on Tuesday against NAIA No. 4 Southeastern University (Fla.).

The Panthers did not drop a set in the match against PR-Rio Piedras, who is a NCAA Division II school. Two of three doubles matches went 6-0 in favor of Simone Pacciolla/Reuben Bakker at two doubles and Jose Brenes/Daniel Calver at three doubles. Calver moved into the one position with Jan Stolin sitting this one out. He won 6-1, 6-3 over Nicolas Alvarez. Pacciolla moved up in the order to the two spot and won 6-0, 6-3 against Diego Rodriguez. Bakker at three singles won 6-0, 6-0 over Andres Del Valle. Jaden Bender, Carlos Henriquez, and Rudiger Dusselberg also won their singles matches and dropped just three games between them.

The Fire of Southeastern University improved to 2-0 with a 7-0 win over Davenport on Tuesday morning. They swept the doubles portion with DU getting as many as three games which came at the three spot from Calver/Brenes. The Fire also won all six singles in straight sets. Calver was able to win seven games in his match at two singles falling 6-4, 6-3 against Diego Menendez. Henriquez at five singles lost 6-3, 6-3 against Mark Griffin.
