HAMMOND, Ind. - In the first round of the Great Lakes Six Conference Tournament on Wednesday night, Davenport saw No. 17 Purdue Northwest score three goals in the third period to break a 1-1 tie after two periods and advance in the tournament with a 4-1 victory. Davenport finishes the season with an overall record of 17-19, while the Pride will now face top-seeded Adrian at Arrington Ice Arena on Thursday, Feb. 27.
Purdue Northwest was able to get the scoring started at 13:16 of the first period as Kolin Leduc scored his ninth goal of the season from Carson Finney and Patrick Hays. Leduc carried the puck into the offensive zone and snapped a wrister past DU goaltender
Nathan Gauthier. PNW held an 18-12 edge in shots on goal in the opening period. In the second period, Davenport tied it up at 6:15 as
Noah Bradburn notched his seventh goal of the season from
Dylan Jouppi. The Pride defense turned it over in their own end and Jouppi fired a pass across the ice from right to left to a wide-open Bradburn who buried it into an open net. The Pride had a 17-14 edge in shots on goal in the middle period.
The Pride finished off the Panthers with a solid third period. Cooper Knott scored his fourth goal of the season at 3:26 for the game winner from Easton Tok and Bryce Jacobsen. PNW won a faceoff in their offensive zone and Tok took a shot from the left point and it was saved, but the rebound found the stick of Knott for the easy tip-in goal. Andrew Remer made it 3-1 at the 14:56 mark with his ninth tally of the season. Craig Herman and Colin Kozijn each had an assist on the goal. The Pride circled the puck briefly before another save and rebound was given up to Remer. He scored moving left to right across the crease area with a backhand tap into the empty net.
Davenport was forced to pull Gauthier off for an extra attacker after a timeout with 3:40 to play, but just seconds later it was Mike Clough firing from behind his defensive blueline all the way down into the empty net to seal the win for Purdue Northwest. Gauthier, in his final game, made 50 saves to tie his season high. The previous 50 saves in a game was against Purdue Northwest on Jan. 10. Both teams went 0-for-2 on the power play. Cooper Olson made 35 saves in net for the Pride.
