Women’s Tennis Finishes Weekend Flawless

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University women's tennis team went 2-0 this weekend, sweeping both of its opponents. The Panthers (8-7, 1-1 GLIAC) also secured their first conference win of the season with a win over Roosevelt on Saturday.

Freshman Sienna Opray extended her singles winning streak to 12 over the weekend, while winning five straight in doubles play.

Match One vs. Goshen
Result: W, 7-0
How it Happened
To open the match, the Panthers swept doubles, winning all three matches. At the No. 1 position, Skye Vandeleur and Opray secured a 6-1 win over Blanka Bodo and Uliana Dotsenko. Lotte Federski and Amy Bloch teamed up at No. 2 doubles, winning 6-3, while Valentina Moreno and Erin Hack recorded a 6-4 victory and the No. 3 position.

Operating at No. 1 singles, Opray took down Bodo 7-6(2), 6-1, while Bloch finished with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles.

Slotted at the No. 3 position, Vandeleur won her matchup 6-1, 6-0 over Sara Nino. Federski went three sets with Ariadna O'Callaghan but came out on top with a 2-6, 6-2, 10-3 win. At No. 5 singles, Moreno ended with a 6-1, 6-2 win, while Kumiko Yamaguchi dominated at No. 6 winning 6-0, 6-0.

Match Two vs. Roosevelt
Result: W, 7-0
How it Happened 
In their first matchup of all-time with Roosevelt, the Panthers secured the doubles point after Vandeleur and Opray won 6-1 (No. 1) and Bloch and Federski secured a 6-2 victory (No. 2).

Opray took home a 7-6(0), 6-3 win at No.1 singles against Teodora Petrica. Playing at the No. 2 position, Bloch secured a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Varvara Ogorodnikova.

Slotted at No. 3 singles Vandeleur took home a 6-1, 6-0 win, while Federski won her match 6-2, 7-6 (6) at the No. 4 position. Hack and Moreno rounded things out with wins at the No. 5 and 6 positions for the Panthers.
