From Debut to Top Contender: Davenport Powerlifting’s Breakthrough at Collegiate Nationals

From April 3rd to 6th, over 1,200 athletes from 104 teams competed at the USA Powerlifting Collegiate Nationals. In just its second year of competition—after a strong debut in 2024—Davenport University's Powerlifting team, composed entirely of underclassmen, made a lasting impact on the national stage. The program, which started with 22 athletes last year, has grown to 32 this year, with plans to expand to over 35 athletes in the fall.

Team Performance Overview:

  • Women's Team – 2nd Place in the Nation

  • Men's Team – 6th Place in the Nation

The Panthers showed impressive growth from last year's results—when the women's team finished 14th with 12 points and the men's team placed 35th with 8 points. This year, the women's team earned 32 points and finished 2nd, while the men's team secured 23 points and placed 6th.

Historic Achievement

A major milestone came when Delaney Sousley became the first-ever national champion in Davenport Powerlifting history, winning 12 points for the women's team in the 48kg category. Delaney's victory, along with several other top finishes, was crucial in securing the women's team's second-place finish and marked a historic moment for the program.

Looking Ahead

With over 35 athletes expected on the roster in the fall, Davenport Powerlifting's future is bright. This year's impressive performance at the USA Powerlifting Collegiate Nationals sets a high bar, and the team is poised for continued success as they build on this momentum.
