Panthers Fall Short Late to Golden Bears

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University women's lacrosse team fell by one goal (13-12) to Concordia St. Paul on Friday afternoon at the DU Turf Field. Despite the loss, the Panthers (6-6, 1-4 GLIAC) held a two-point lead in the fourth quarter, but a 4-0 run by the Golden Bears (8-5, 4-1 GLIAC) sealed the game.

Milestone Watch
Senior Maddy Haynes had a team-high four goals, putting her two away from 100 in her career. On the season, she is currently tied with Blakely Malpass for the most goals on the squad (29).

How it Happened
Alyssa Bird scored the opening goal of the game, which led to a 3-0 run by the Panthers, capped by a goal from Ele Darmofal. After the Golden Bears tied the game at three apiece, Haynes scored her first goal of the day at the end of the opening period to give DU a 4-3 advantage.

Haynes and Bird each found the back of the net again in the second period and the game went into halftime tied 6-6.

One minute into the second half, Theadora Krueger forced a turnover, scooped up a ground ball and went coast to coast, finding the back of the net and putting the Panthers up 7-6.

Going into the final period tied, Haynes gave Davenport a two-point advantage with a pair of goals, but the 4-0 CSP run that ensued was too much for DU to come back from.

Krueger finished with an impressive stat line, scoring three goals, picking up four ground balls and forcing four turnovers (tied a season-high).  Jenna Gillis added a goal and two assists, while bird chipped in with two goals.

In net, Rachel Livak played all 60 minutes for Davenport, recording eight saves in the loss.
