No. 12 Eagles Secure 4-1 Victory over Panthers

CALEDONIA, Mich. — #12 Ashland defeated Davenport 4-1 on Sunday at Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex. The Eagles' offense was led by a balanced attack, scoring twice in each half. The Panthers managed a goal in the second half but couldn't overcome Ashland's strong performance, with the Eagles outshooting the Panthers 15-7.

The first half began with Ashland gaining early momentum, as Dani Hicks scored in the 6th minute, assisted by Sofia Divine, followed by Clara Richardson's goal in the 11th minute to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead, capitalizing on the momentum from consecutive corner kicks. Davenport responded with offensive pressure, highlighted by Josie Wilcox and Claire Breault's consecutive shots around the 23rd minute, though both were denied by goalkeeper Jaya Daniel. Bailey Gauthier notched a save against Hicks in the 26th minute to keep the deficit at two goals as the half ended, leaving Ashland ahead 2-0.

The second half began with Davenport's defense under pressure as Ashland tested Gauthier with multiple shots. Gauthier made stops at 50:59 and 54:57 against attempts from Cece Craig and Richardson. Ashland's Hicks broke through with a goal in the 59th minute, extending their lead to 3-0. Davenport responded in the 79th minute when Kyle Shelton found the net, assisted by Madison Fant, marking Shelton's first career collegiate goal and narrowing the margin to 3-1. Despite the late push, Ashland managed to extend the lead to 4-1 with a goal by Karleigh Cress in the 89th minute, concluding the match.

The Panthers begin GLIAC play on the road, traveling to Ferris State on Friday, Sept. 19, for a 1 p.m. kickoff, followed by Saginaw Valley State on Sunday, Sept. 21, also at 1 p.m.
