Kyler Lowden, who recorded 42 saves, Northwood secured the win with a goal at 2:35 in overtime by Owen Croston. The Panthers turned it over in their defensive zone and Croston had the one-on-one opportunity.
Jake Alton scored the lone goal for Davenport in the second period at 11:19 to give DU a 1-0 lead. His short-handed effort, assisted by
Bryan Fenlon and
Ryan Blackburn, marked a crucial moment in the game despite the eventual loss.
The Timberwolves got the tying goal at 10:00 of the third period from Alex Blankenship and then applied pressure in the third period with 19 shots on goal. Lowden made several big saves to send the game into overtime. Northwood continued the pressure with five shots in overtime compared to zero for the Panthers. Neither team was able to score on the power play, both going 0-for-4.
The teams will play again on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 6:30 PM in the home opener for the Panthers.
