Davenport Football Home Opener vs. Lincoln (Calif.) Canceled

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University athletic department has announced the cancellation of the football game scheduled for Thursday, September 25, 2025, between the Panthers and Lincoln University (Calif.) at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex.

Lincoln University made a late decision on Monday, just a few days before game time, to cancel. At this time, the contest will not be rescheduled.

"We are disappointed for our student-athletes and the Davenport community," said executive director of intercollegiate athletics Paul Lowden. "This game was scheduled to be our home opener. We will regroup and focus our attention on our next opponent in Grand Valley State."

Fans who purchased tickets in advance will receive information regarding refunds or future ticket options through the Davenport athletic department.

"Unfortunately, these things happen in sports," said head coach Sparky McEwen. "I feel bad for our student-athletes as well as the Lincoln University student-athletes. When you work for 365 days to play 11 contests, it is not fair to the kids. Putting together a schedule can be extremely tough, and we were excited to play an opponent from California."

The next contest for the Panthers will be on Saturday, October 4th, when they travel to Grand Valley State for a 4:00 PM kickoff at Lubbers Stadium in Allendale.
