Tydings Records Career-High as Panthers Secure Third Straight Sweep

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Morgan Tydings led the Davenport University women's volleyball team to a third consecutive sweep (25-23, 28-26, 25-19) on Friday afternoon at the DU Student Center. The senior finished with a career-high 15 kills, while hitting .519.

The Panthers (6-4, 3-0 GLIAC) found themselves down eight (11-3) in the early stages of the opening set. Despite Wayne State building an early advantage, the Panthers stayed within reach, highlighted by Abby Alan's crucial kills and service aces that cut the deficit to 16-15. As the set progressed, the Panthers showcased resilience with a late run, including pivotal kills by Kaitlin Jordan and Karley Pretzer, tying the score at 19-19. This momentum carried through as DU edged ahead, capitalizing on the Warriors' errors and Pretzer's final kill to close the set at 25-23.

Davenport started the second set with effective serving and took advantage of the Warriors' miscues to keep the score close. Key plays included Maggie Juncaj's service ace and Alan's successful attacks, which helped the Panthers maintain momentum despite the Warriors' efforts. DU capitalized on the Warriors' service errors and defensive lapses to narrow the gap mid-set.
As the set progressed, Pretzer and Tydings contributed crucial kills, enabling the Panthers to rally from a deficit. A late push saw the team level the score at 23-23 after a series of Warriors' errors. Ultimately, Pretzer's kills and a final attack error by the Warriors' Katie Smith allowed the Panthers to clinch the set 28-26, concluding the set and putting DU ahead 2-0.

Tydings and Madison Berry led the charge early in the final set. Tydings, assisted by Berry, contributed several key kills to establish an early lead. The home team capitalized on the Warriors' errors, maintaining momentum and extending the score to 13-6. The Panthers continued to dominate, with contributions from Pretzer and Sydney Swan widening the gap. Despite a late push from the Warriors, the Panthers maintained their composure. Tydings sealed the set with a final kill, closing the set with a 25-19 victory.

Pretzer finished with 12 kills on 29 attempts for the Panthers in the win. Alan chipped in with 11 kills and four digs for DU, while Carr registered 11 digs. Berry ended with a match-high 41 assists and nine digs for the Panthers.
