Davenport Locks Down 2-0 Shutout Over Roosevelt

CALEDONIA, Mich. — Davenport women's soccer controlled the pace from the opening whistle Friday, using two first-half goals and a steady defensive effort to secure a 2-0 victory over Roosevelt. The Panthers created chances throughout the match, outshooting the Lakers 21-5 and putting 13 attempts on goal to earn the shutout.

Davenport wasted little time putting pressure on the Roosevelt defense, and Isabella Workman broke through at 16:06 with an unassisted goal to give the Panthers an early lead. Workman's fourth goal of the season set the tone for an attacking first half, and Davenport quickly found another breakthrough. Fresh off the bench, Ella Chatfield made an immediate impact, finishing Abigail Waldron's assist at 24:51 for her first goal of the season. With a two-goal cushion, the Panthers continued to push forward while Elizabeth Wolter made a save at 36:40 to keep Roosevelt off the scoreboard heading into halftime.

The Panthers carried that momentum into the second half, opening with four shots and four corner kicks between 46:25 and 56:11. Ryan Whitford, Workman and Alyson Peterson each tested the Roosevelt goalkeeper as Davenport looked to extend its lead. On the other end, Wolter remained steady, turning away Roosevelt's lone shot on goal of the half at 81:37. Davenport continued to apply pressure late, earning four corner kicks over the final seven minutes before closing out the shutout.

Workman led the Panthers with three shots on goal across four attempts, including the game-winning goal, while Chatfield made the most of her opportunity off the bench with a goal on her only shot. Waldron added an assist, and Wolter played all 90 minutes, making two saves to record the shutout.

Up next, Davenport returns home Thursday, Oct. 29, to host Northern Michigan at noon in Caledonia, Mich.
