Panthers’ Season Comes to a Close in GLIAC Quarterfinals

HAMMOND, Ind. — The Davenport men's soccer team saw its season come to a close on Saturday, falling 2–1 to Purdue Northwest in the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinals. The Panthers struck first and recorded nine shots while earning nine corner kicks, but the Lions responded with two goals to secure the victory and advance to the semifinals.

Davenport came out with early energy, earning three corner kicks in less than two minutes before Dugan Black opened the scoring at 12:37 off an assist from Jordy Rodriguez. Archie Oliver and Charlie Davis also put shots on target as the Panthers created early opportunities. Purdue Northwest answered in the 27th minute when Ricardo Cruz found the equalizer at 26:27. Carter McGowan made another save before halftime, as the teams entered the break tied 1–1.

The match shifted early in the second half when Giovanni Melgoza scored at 49:19 to give the Lions a 2–1 advantage. Davenport continued searching for an equalizer, recording five shots after halftime and earning two late corner kicks. Alexis Rivera-Velasquez and Lance Toutanji each recorded an attempt as the Panthers pushed forward in the closing minutes, but they could not find the tying goal before time expired.

Black led the Davenport attack with one goal on his lone shot on target, finishing with two points. Rodriguez added an assist and put his only shot on frame, while McGowan played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded four saves.

With the loss, Davenport finishes the season 3–10–5 overall and 2–7–3 in GLIAC play, concluding its campaign in the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinals.
