McGowan Sets Season High With 11 Saves Against Roosevelt

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. — Carter McGowan recorded a season-high 11 saves as Davenport battled through a 2-0 loss to Roosevelt on Friday. The Panthers looked to generate opportunities on the attack, earning six corner kicks, but Roosevelt scored once in each half to secure the GLIAC victory.

Roosevelt put the Panthers' defense under pressure throughout the first half, forcing McGowan to make nine saves to keep Davenport within reach. He came up with four stops between the 38th and 41st minutes after Matthew Goulding opened the scoring in the 24th minute. Davenport generated three shots and earned three corner kicks in the opening half but entered the break trailing 1-0.

Davenport continued to search for an equalizer after halftime, matching Roosevelt with four shots while earning another three corner kicks. Despite creating additional opportunities on the attack, the Panthers were unable to find the back of the net. Roosevelt extended its lead in the 77th minute when Fynn Mewes finished a pass from Rafael Rios to make it 2-0. McGowan added two saves in the second half to finish with his season-best 11 saves over 90 minutes.

Drew Matyunas and Kevin Hubbell led the Panthers with two shots apiece, with Matyunas recording Davenport's only shot on goal.

Davenport will look to bounce back on Sunday, Oct. 11, when the Panthers travel to St. Cloud, Minn., to face St. Cloud State at 1 p.m. The matchup marks the second meeting between the teams this season as Davenport continues GLIAC play.
