Panthers' Late Push Falls Short in GLIAC Quarterfinals

CALEDONIA, Mich. — Davenport saw its season come to a close Tuesday afternoon, falling 3-2 to Wis.-Parkside in the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinals. After facing an early three-goal deficit, the Panthers battled back with two goals and mounted a furious late push, but Parkside held on through a dramatic final stretch to secure the victory.

Parkside struck three times in a span of just over four minutes, scoring between 15:12 and 19:49 to build a 3-0 advantage. Davenport continued to search for an answer, with Isabella Workman forcing a save at 23:47 before the Panthers found their breakthrough just before halftime. At 44:24, Abigail Waldron delivered a free kick into the box, where Ellary Laverty redirected it with a header into the net to bring Davenport within two heading into the break.

The Panthers carried that momentum into the second half, continuing to apply pressure as they looked to close the gap. At 74:17, Audrey Muterspaugh found the back of the net off an assist from Autumn Wakefield, making it a 3-2 contest and setting up a dramatic finish.

The closing minutes brought plenty of action at both ends, as Parkside was forced to make multiple changes in goal. After its starting goalkeeper exited with an injury, the Rangers turned to their backup, who also left the match due to injury. Their third goalkeeper entered for the final minutes and came up with two important saves to keep Davenport from finding the equalizer.

The Panthers refused to go quietly, generating eight attacking actions over the final 14-plus minutes and earning three corner kicks during the closing stretch. Madison Fant and Wakefield each put attempts on target, while Davenport continued to threaten as the clock wound down. Despite the late pressure and several opportunities to force extra time, Parkside held on for the 3-2 win.
Muterspaugh finished with a goal and two shots, while Laverty added a goal on her lone attempt. Wakefield recorded an assist and led Davenport with four shots. Elizabeth Wolter played all 90 minutes in goal, making five saves, all in the second half.

The 2026 season marked a milestone year for Davenport women's soccer, as the Panthers hosted a GLIAC Tournament game for the first time in program history and reached the 10-win mark for the first time since 2016. Davenport finished the campaign with a 10-5-4 overall record and an 8-4-2 mark in conference play.

The program also bids farewell to its senior class — Jada Spillers, Olivia Bosworth, Maddy Bettys, Madison Fant, Natalie Vance, Caysee Burke and Autumn Wakefield — whose leadership and commitment have left a lasting impact on Davenport women's soccer.
