Panthers Start Spring Season with Two Victories

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University women's tennis team opened its spring season with two wins last week, taking down Lawrence Tech on Friday (Feb. 6) and Northwood (Feb. 7).

Match One (LTU)
Result:
W, 7-0
How it Happened
DU set the tone early by claiming the doubles point, winning all three matches in convincing fashion. At No. 1 doubles, Skye Vandeleur and Sienna Opray cruised to a 6–2 victory, while the No. 2 pairing of Maja Sandstrom and Addison Lind was even more decisive with a 6–1 win. Lotte Federski and Amy Bloch completed the sweep at No. 3 doubles with a 6–2 result.

Momentum carried straight into singles play, where the Panthers did not drop a match. Vandeleur opened singles with a commanding 6–0, 6–2 win at No. 1, followed by Opray earning a straight-sets victory (6–2, 6–2) at No. 2. At No. 3, Bloch battled through the opening set before pulling away for a 6–4, 6–1 win.

The bottom half of the lineup remained just as strong. Lind posted a 6–2, 6–2 decision at No. 4, Sandstrom dominated at No. 5 with a 6–0, 6–2 win and Federski capped the day at No. 6 with a 6–2, 6–0 performance.

Match Two (Northwood)
Result:
W, 4-3
How it Happened
Davenport grabbed early momentum by securing the doubles point, winning two of the three matches. The tandem of Vandeleur and Opray set the tone at No. 1 doubles, while Sandstrom and Lind battled through a tiebreak to claim the win at No. 2. Bloch and Federski rounded out doubles play with a decisive victory at No. 3, giving the Panthers the opening point.

Singles play proved highly competitive, but DU delivered when it mattered most. At No. 1 singles, Vandeleur fought through a three-set match, bouncing back after dropping the opening set to secure the win in a deciding super tiebreak. Sandstrom followed with a strong performance at No. 5, earning a straight-sets victory and Federski sealed the match with a clutch win at No. 6.
