Panthers Pick Up Pair of Wins Over Regional Opponents

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — This past weekend, the Davenport University women's tennis team went 2-1 this past weekend, taking on a trio of regional opponents.

Match One vs. McKendree
Results: W, 5-2
How it Happened
The Panthers opened the match with momentum, sweeping all three doubles courts to secure the early point. At No. 1 doubles, the tandem of Sienna Opray and Skye Vandeleur earned a 6-2 victory. The No. 2 pair of Maja Sandstrom and Addison Lind followed with a decisive 6-1 win, while Lotte Federski and Amy Bloch closed out doubles competition with a 6-2 triumph at No. 3.

At No. 2 singles, Bloch delivered a strong performance, earning a straight-set 6-3, 6-1 win. Opray added another point for the Panthers at No. 3 singles with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Several other courts were tightly contested, including a three-set battle at No. 5 singles, but McKendree was able to capture four singles victories to clinch the match and hand Davenport the 5-2 defeat. The Panthers showed resilience throughout the lineup, particularly in doubles play, and will look to carry that momentum forward in their upcoming matches.

Match Two vs. Tiffin

How it Happened
In the second match of the weekend, the Panthers edged the Dragons in a tightly contested battle that came down to the final singles courts.

Davenport opened the afternoon in doubles competition, earning two key wins to claim the doubles point. The No. 2 pairing of Sandstrom and Lind battled to a 7-5 victory, while Bloch and Federski secured a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles. Tiffin claimed the No. 1 court, but the Panthers' success on the other two courts gave them early momentum heading into singles play.

Singles competition proved to be evenly matched across the lineup. Opray delivered a steady performance at No. 3 singles, earning a 6-1, 6-4 straight-set victory. At No. 4 singles, Sandstrom added another point with a 6-2, 6-1 win.

Tiffin responded with wins at the top of the lineup and in the middle courts, creating a 3-3 team score and setting up a decisive finish. The match ultimately came down to No. 6 singles, where Federski showed resilience in a three-set battle, prevailing 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 to clinch the team victory for Davenport.

Match Three vs. Walsh
Results: L, 4-3
How it Happened
Walsh secured the early doubles point, earning wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The Panthers' No. 3 duo of Bloch and Federski responded with an 8-0 shutout victory, but it was not enough to overcome the Cavaliers' two doubles wins as Davenport trailed 1-0 heading into singles play.

Davenport answered in singles competition with strong performances in the middle and lower courts. Bloch earned a straight-set victory at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-1, while Sandstrom followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4. At No. 6 singles, Lotte Federski delivered another dominant performance, winning 6-1, 6-1 to give the Panthers a 3-2 advantage in the team score.

Walsh responded at the top of the lineup, claiming victories at No. 1 and No. 2 singles in straight sets to even the match. The dual ultimately came down to No. 5 singles, where Addison Lind battled in a three-set contest. After dropping the opening set 6-4, Lind forced a deciding third set with a 6-1 win in the second. However, Walsh edged the final set 7-5 to secure the team's fourth point and the 4-3 victory.

The Panthers will be back in action next weekend, hosting Oakland at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the MVP SportsPlex.
