Quick Start Moves Panthers Past Timberwolves

MIDLAND, Mich. — The Davenport University women's lacrosse team secured a decisive 15-8 victory over Northwood on Sunday at Dean Field. Davenport's offense was led by a strong first quarter, scoring seven goals, while its defense limited the Timberwolves to just eight goals overall.

DU  started the first quarter strong with Addison Roe scoring the first goal of the game at 10:03, assisted by Jenna Gillis. The team capitalized on man-up opportunities, with Roe and Mika Kulynych both finding the net shortly after, assisted by Gabby Basha and Brianna Rodriguez. Jade Remacle continued the scoring streak with a man-up goal, again assisted by Basha, bringing the score to 4-0. The Panthers ended the quarter with a commanding 7-1 lead, highlighted by Rodriguez scoring twice. 

The Panthers extended their lead in the second quarter with a goal from Remacle at 5:57, marking her fifth of the season. Remacle also secured the draw control immediately following her goal. Later, Gillis capitalized on a man-up opportunity, netting her third goal of the season at 2:23. The Timberwolves struggled to capitalize on their possessions, with several turnovers and a missed shot by Mairin Ziegler saved by Isabelle Bonillo in the final seconds. The quarter ended with Davenport leading 9-1 heading into the half.

Alyssa Bird scored a man-up goal for Davenport at 9:12, assisted by Basha, to push DU to 10 in the third quarter. Ava Clark added another goal for Davenport at the 3:00 mark, ensuring the team maintained its lead. The quarter ended with DU holding an 11-3 advantage over the Timberwolves.

In the fourth quarter, Davenport's Rodriguez opened the scoring with a free-position goal at 12:56, her seventh of the season. Davenport then regained momentum late with Gillis, Elly Teliczan and Basha each scoring, resulting in a 15-8 final score. Gillis contributed with a goal and an assist during this stretch.
