Women's Hockey posts their fourth double-digit win season with a sweep against Aquinas

DU reached 10 wins for the first time since the 2016-17 season

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport women's ACHA hockey team reached a milestone on Sunday after completing a weekend sweep over Aquinas College. The Panthers got to the double-digit win plateau for the first time since the 2016-17 season and are now 10-15-1 overall. DU had no trouble against the Saints with wins of 11-2 at Southside Ice Arena on Saturday and a Senior Day 9-1 triumph on Sunday at Patterson Ice Center. Abi Courtney, Mika Kulynych, and Gabby Basha are the seniors on the roster for DU.

First-year head coach Blake Hackbarth has completely turned around the program after just five wins in a five-year span prior to his arrival. History was made recently on Jan. 30 when freshman Kacie Stolarek set the single-season goal record with her 26th against Grand Valley State. She had two more goals in the Penn State series last weekend in State College and has distanced herself with a monster couple of games against Aquinas.

Stolarek scored four times in Friday's rout with two goals in the first period, including a short-handed goal at 17:32 for her 30th of the season. She added another at 4:43 of the third period and the fourth came at 14:26 of the final period from Morgan Osborn and Kulynych. Basha also recorded a hat trick to increase her season total to 16. She also had a short-handed tally at 16:36 of the second period. DU fired 61 shots on goal compared to 19 for the Saints. Courtney finished with two assists. Ainsley Skinner, Kulynych, Sydriha Retzlaff, and Abby Hildebrand would also score a goal for the Panthers.

Sunday's matinee saw Stolarek score four more goals to up her season total to 36. She is currently leading the nation (ACHA WD1) in goals and is tied for second with 48 points. Basha found the back of the net twice on back-to-back finishes in the third period. Her second of the game came on the power play at 19:04 from Kaylen Clark and Skinner. Basha's 18 goals this season is fifth-most in a season at DU.

Kulynych added two goals for a total of five this season. Courtney tallied a goal and assist. Hildebrand assisted on two goals. Avery Hall made 12 saves in net for Davenport. Izzy Buckett stopped 78 shots on the afternoon for Aquinas. The team will conclude the regular season on Friday, Feb. 13 with a 3:00 PM contest at Griff's Georgetown in Hudsonville against Grand Valley State.
