ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Davenport women's golf wrapped up play at the UMSL Spring Invitational with a seventh-place finish, posting a three-round total of 932 (316-314-302) at Norwood Hills Country Club. The Panthers saved their best round for last, shaving 12 strokes off their second-round score to card a 302 in the final round, showing steady improvement across the two-day event. The ladies played 36 holes on Sunday and finished up with 18 holes on Monday.
Leading the way for Davenport was
Lauren Gervais, who tied for 21st overall with a +14 total score of 227. Gervais was consistent throughout the tournament and closed strong with a team-best 72 (+1) in the final round. Gervais recorded back-to-back birdies in the first round on holes 6 and 7. In the second round, she carded three straight birdies on holes 6-8. She shot even par on the front nine in the final round, including an eagle at the par-5, 6th hole in which she played that hole at four-under par for the tournament.
Venetia Chap followed, placing 37th at +22 (235), highlighted by an impressive bounce-back final round of 72 (+1). She climbed 16 spots up the leaderboard in the final day of competition. Chap birdied holes 1 and 6 in the opening round and then birdied four holes, two on each nine, in the final round for the one-over 71.
Melissa Walker (38th, +23),
Thailee Gerding (39th, +24), and
Hannah Robinson (T52, +31) rounded out the scoring for the Panthers, with Walker posting the team's best round in the second day with a 77 and Gerding adding a 77 in round two as well. Walker also had much success on the par-5, 6th hole with birdies in the first two rounds and an eagle on Monday. Gerding was able to record three birdies in the second round on holes 1, 6, and 11. Robinson shot two birdies on the front nine in the second round on holes 1 and 5.
