HAMMOND, Ind. — Davenport opened conference play with a 1-0 victory over Purdue Northwest on Friday.
Audrey Muterspaugh provided the game-winning goal in the first half, while
Elizabeth Wolter and the Panthers' defense held the Lions scoreless for the shutout.
Muterspaugh put Davenport on the board at 19:52, finishing off an assist from Madison Fant. The goal was Muterspaugh's fourth of the season, while Fant recorded her first assist. Davenport held its 1-0 advantage through halftime as Wolter made two saves in the opening 45 minutes.
The Panthers and Lions each finished with eight shots and three shots on goal. Davenport created several chances early in the second half, including a four-shot stretch from 50:48 to 60:48. Fant put one of those attempts on goal, but PNW goalkeeper Meta Fischer made the save. Davenport added two more corner kicks late in the match and put Isabella Workman's shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the Panthers held on for the win.
Wolter finished with three saves across 90 minutes to record her second shutout of the season.
With the win, Davenport improves to 3-0-2 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play, while Purdue Northwest falls to 2-2-1 overall and 0-1-0 in GLIAC action.
Davenport returns to action Sunday, Sept. 13, traveling to Arlington Heights, Illinois, to face Roosevelt at 1 p.m.
