Panthers Hold Ferris State to 1-1 Draw

CALEDONIA, Mich. — Davenport took an early lead against Ferris State on Friday afternoon and held on for a 1-1 draw after a scoreless second half.

Davenport took an early 1-0 lead in the 28th minute when Audrey Muterspaugh scored off an assist from Sofia Capoccia. Capoccia created an early chance for the Panthers, recording two shots in the opening eight minutes, including one that was saved by Ferris State goalkeeper Korinne Ihrke.

The Bulldogs answered in the 42nd minute when Isabella Baron scored off an assist from Katherine Welch, sending the match into halftime tied at 1-1.

Neither team was able to find the go-ahead goal in the second half. Davenport created several chances early in the half, including a shot from Isabella Workman and three corner kicks. Ferris State made a late push, but Elizabeth Wolter came up with three saves in the final 11 minutes to keep the match tied. Davenport also recorded a team save during the late Bulldogs pressure.

Muterspaugh finished with one shot, which was on goal, while Capoccia led the Panthers with three shots and added an assist. Wolter played all 90 minutes and finished with four saves.

The Panthers return home to host Grand Valley State on Friday, Oct. 2 at 11 a.m. in Caledonia.
