Scott Cook is in his 18th season as head coach of Davenport University's cross country and track & field teams. Cook is the only head coach in the history of each program.
Academically, Cook's teams are top notch. He consistently has teams that are recognized by the USTFCCCAÂ as All-Academic. The men's team has been named USTFCCCA All-Academic a total of seven times since joining the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and NCAA Division II. In addition, the women's team has been named six times during this same span.
Cook has seen his men's team finish third during the GLIAC Indoor Championship for the past three seasons. The men's team has also sent student-athletes to the NCAA Indoor Championship during the 2021-22 and 2023-24 seasons. Isaiah Schafer was a national champion in the shot put in 2021-22. Bryce Monroe was also an All-American in the shot put during the 2023-24 indoor campaign with a 12th-place finish at nationals. Noah Evers finished third in the shot put at the same meet to become a First Team All-American. Joining Schafer as a national champion is Tor'i Brooks, who had back-to-back wins in the high jump during the NAIA era in 2013-14 and 2014-15.
The Panthers have had six different male student-athletes win an individual championship at the GLIAC Indoors including Brayden Green in the triple jump (2024-25), Solomon King in the 60 and 200 meters (2023-24), Evers in the shot put (2023-24), Noah Dooley in the heptathlon (2022-23), Bryce Albrecht in the heptathlon (2021-22), and Ethan Flores in the 60 hurdles (2021-22). Three of those guys (Dooley, King, and Green) also received High Point Athlete of the Meet honors. On the women's side, there have been three that have become individual indoor champions in the GLIAC. Annabelle Schafer in the pentathlon (2023-24), Erin Dorn in the 800 meters (2023-24), and Emma Schafer in the pentathlon (2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21) and high jump (2021-22). Dorn and Emma Schafer have also been All-Americans.
The outdoor season has seen the men's team climb as high as second in the team standings at the GLIAC meet during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. The program has experienced a bevy of individuals as GLIAC Champions including Brayden Green in the triple jump (2024-25), Ethan Scholten in the 100 meters (2023-24), Solomon King in the 200 meters (2023-24), Bryce Albrecht in the pole vault (2023-24), Noah Dooley in the 100 meters (2022-23), 200 meters (2022-23), and decathlon (2021-22) with a GLIAC record of 7,061 points, Isaiah Schafer in the shot put (2020-21) and discus (2021-22), and finally Jordan Stanford in the 400 hurdles (2017-18). Schafer was named GLIAC Field Athlete of the Meet in 2021-22. Dooley earned GLIAC Track Athlete of the Meet in 2022-23 and also was the High Point Athlete of the Meet. Schafer would go on to earn USTFCCCA Division II National Scholar Field Athlete of the Year in 2022. Schafer was the national Division II champion in the shot put in 2022. Evers, Dooley, and Schafer have each been selected as CoSIDA/CSC Academic All-American.
The women's team has seen the following earn GLIAC Championships: Annabelle Schafer in the heptathlon (2023-24), Julia Tuuri in the 100 meters (2023-24, 2024-25) and 200 meters (2024-25), Sidney Heugel in the pole vault (2022-23), and Emma Schafer in the heptathlon (2017-18, 2020-21, 2021-22). Schafer also earned GLIAC Field Athlete of the Meet and High Point Athlete of the Meet in 2021-22 and Tuuri was GLIAC Track Athlete of the Meet and High Point Athlete of the Meet in 2024-25. The team has been represented at the nationals by Ella Baryo in the 3,000 steeplechase (2025), and Schafer in the heptathlon (2017, 2022).
Cook coached 38 WHAC champions in both sports along with a WHAC Outdoor Athlete of the Year in two seasons. He has also coached 11 athletes who have earned nine NAIA All-American honors. In 2013-14, the program saw its biggest individual accomplishment as Tori' Brooks won the indoor and outdoor national championship in the high jump. It marked the first-ever NAIA title in any sport at the school. Brooks would go on to repeat his indoor title in the winter of 2015. He was named the WHAC Coach of Character in 2014-15.
Prior to Davenport, Cook was the head coach at Northwood University for six seasons. During his time at Northwood, he coached a dozen NCAA Division II All-Americans and two Academic All-Americans. Previous to NU, Cook served as assistant cross country and track & field coach at Grand Valley State University. Scott is a 1997 graduate of Bradley University where he lettered four years in cross country.
He is also a member of DU's Diversity Equity & Inclusion Committee and currently serves on the Athletic Advisory Board at DU.
He and his wife Beth reside in Alto, Mich. with their two children - Addison and Owen.
