Andy Fries joins the Davenport football program as offensive line coach. Fries previously served as special teams coordinator and offensive line coach at his alma mater Otterbein University (NCAA Division III) since March 2015. He coordinated, designed and implemented all four areas of special teams play. He coached four All-Ohio Athletic Conference players during his tenure. During 2017, he coached the offensive line that saw tremendous results as the Cardinals ranked second in the OAC in most touchdowns, punt average and total first downs. His unit also protected OAC Offensive Back of the Year and First Team All-OAC quarterback Logan Stepp.

Fries also had stops at Wilmington College (2013-2015) as offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator and Lakeland College (2012-2013) as run game coordinator and offensive line coach.

A four-year letterman and three-year starter while at Otterbein from 2005-2008, Fries was elected captain his senior year and helped the Cards set records for most wins (9) and make the NCAA playoffs for the only time in school history.  A two-time First Team All-OAC selection, he was named the OAC’s Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman in 2008 and was subsequently a Third Team All-American selection by D3football.com.

Fries earned his bachelor’s degree in communications in 2009, and his master’s degree in teaching in 2012. He and his wife, Marinda, have a daughter, Maddie.
