Matt Tyler

Matt Tyler joined the Davenport University football staff as the Tight Ends Coach in March of 2023. Tyler comes to Davenport after serving as the Running Backs Coach/Out of State Recruiting Coordinator at American River College in Sacramento, Calif. During his time at American River, he mentored multiple running backs on their way to an undefeated conference championship and Nor-Cal Championship game appearance. He also assisted with special teams which ranked among the top of the conference.
 
Before American River College, Tyler played fullback for NCAA DII Henderson State (Ark.) for three seasons. While playing for Henderson State head coach Scott Maxfield, he was an All-Conference Selection, while also earning Academic All-Conference. The Henderson State offense ranked among the best during his time at HSU. In 2021, HSU had the No. 4 ranked offense in all of Division II football averaging 494.3 yards per game, and No. 7 in Scoring with 40.5 points per game. Between 2019 and 2021, the Reddies won 18 games, while making an appearance in the 2019 Live United Bowl Game.
 
Before Henderson State, Tyler attended and played at Butte College in Oroville, Calif. While attending the storied Butte College, he played fullback for head coach Robby Snelling and the Roadrunners made an appearance in the 2017 State Center Bowl.
 
Born in Sacramento, Calif., he attended Rocklin High School in Rocklin. Calif. graduating in 2015. He currently resides in Grand Rapids, where he enjoys weightlifting and hiking in his free time.
