Zac Hueter

Zac Heuter rejoined the Davenport coaching staff in 2020 after a one-year stint at Northwood University during the 2019 season. Hueter coached the offensive line for the Timberwolves as Damon Sutton and Zach Graham was named Honorable Mention All-GLIAC. NU averaged 133.5 yards per game on the ground with 16 touchdowns.

Hueter is in his fourth season overall at Davenport and second as offensive coordinator. Hueter previously coached the offensive line and was run game coordinator in 2018.

In 2016, Davenport participated in their inaugural season in the NAIA. The young offensive line finished the season ranked fifth in the nation in overall sacks allowed and ranked seventh in the nation in sacks/game. The offensive line unit also paved the way for an average of 158 rushing yards per game with an average of 4.0 yards per carry. 

Before joining Davenport, Zac was previously at West Virginia University as the offensive line graduate assistant working under Head Coach Dana Holgorsen and assisting Offensive Line Coach, Ron Crook. Zac was a part of the first winning season at West Virginia since joining the Big 12 Conference. The Mountaineers finished the season 8-5, capping the season off with a win against Arizona State in the Motel 6 Cactus Bowl. The West Virginia offense finished the year in the Top 25 in total offense and top 20 in rushing offense.

Prior to West Virginia, Hueter spent seven seasons at Michigan State. As a graduate assistant, he primarily worked under Mark Staten and Jim Bollman with the offensive line and tight ends. He helped mentor All-Americans Jack Conklin and Jack Allen and Freshman All-American, Brian Allen. During the 2014 season, Michigan State finished with 11 wins with a Cotton Bowl victory over Baylor. The 2014 Michigan State offense finished the season ranked 11th nationally in total offense, seventh in scoring offense and fourth in the country for sacks allowed.

During the 2013 campaign, Hueter was entering his first season as a graduate assistant. That year, Michigan State finished the season with 13 wins, a Big Ten Championship win over Ohio State and a Rose Bowl win over Stanford. 

For the 2011 and 2012 seasons, he was a student-assistant football coach. Assisting Mark Staten with the offensive line and working with the scout team offense.

After joining the Spartans in 2008, Hueter retired from football in 2010 following multiple shoulder injuries.

A two-year, two-way starter at North Branch (Michigan) High School, Hueter was a First-Team All-State selection as a senior by The Associated Press (Division 3-4) and Detroit Free Press (Division 4) in 2007.

A native of Columbiaville, Michigan, Hueter earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from MSU in December 2012. He also earned a master’s degree in kinesiology from MSU in December 2014.

Hueter and his wife, Chelsea, reside in the Grand Rapids area.
