Bjorn Hansen

Bjorn Hansen is in his fourth year as an assistant coach as he followed head coach Chris Hughes from Calvin College where he was part of the coaching staff during seven of Hughes’ ten years there.

Although he moved into a volunteer role with the Panthers, Hansen remained active with the team, from broadcasting the home matches on the Davenport Athletics Network during the regular-season to aiding Hughes on the sideline during the Panthers' NAIA National Championship run.

Before joining Calvin, Hansen coached many successful teams in West Michigan and has been involved with club soccer locally for many years. He was co-founder of a local soccer club and has held several board positions at the club and league level. He is currently on the board of Grand Valley Soccer Association.

His playing career started in his native Denmark where he played at the top development level while majoring in mathematics. In 1988, he set sail for the United States to take up a professional career in flying.

Hansen holds a United States Soccer Federation 'D' License and is a Certified Meulensteen Specialist. Along with his duties at Davenport, he works as an airline pilot for American Airlines based at JFK Airport  in New York.

Hansen and his wife Carla reside in Caledonia with their two daughters.Â
