Davenport University director of athletics Paul Lowden announced the hiring of David Vander Meer as the first men's volleyball coach in March 2015. Vander Meer began his duties immediately as he prepares for the inaugural season next winter. Vander Meer joins Davenport after spending five seasons as an assistant women's volleyball coach at Cornerstone University under Ryan Campbell.

Vander Meer brings a wealth of experience in the sport of volleyball, having been associated with the sport in different areas for more than 18 years. He is the president and coach of the Carpe Diem Volleyball Club and in 2007, he led the Tri-Unity Christian varsity team to the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) state finals. Vander Meer has his CAP (Coaching Accreditation Program) Level 1 and is a USAV certified beach coach.

On top of coaching, Vander Meer has officiated the Association of Volleyball Professionals beach tour along with the Midwest Athletic Conference (MAC) and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). He has also been a national official with USA Volleyball and the Professional Association of Volleyball Officials.

Vander Meer is married to Michelle and has five children David Ryan, Megan, Sydney, Jennifer, and Nathanael. He and his family reside in Grand Rapids.
