Scott Cook

Scott Cook is in his 17th season as head coach of Davenport University's cross country and track & field teams. Cook is the only head coach in the history of each program.

Following the conclusion of the 2023-24 seasons, Cook saw two athletes be named NCAA DII First Team All-Americans - Noah Evers and Bryce Monroe - for the shot put event, with Monroe also receiving Second Team All-American honors in pole vaulting. Regarding cross country, Jordan Domany and Erin Dorn received Second Team All-GLIAC honors after the 2023 GLIAC XC Championships.

During his time at DU, his indoor and outdoor track & field teams have seen the most success. Cook has mentored a pair of indoor NCAA DII All-Americans during the 2019-20 season in Emma and Isaiah Schafer. Emma was honored in the pentathlon while Isaiah qualified in the shot put. Emma was also a GLIAC champion during indoor in the pentathlon in 2018-19 and 2019-20. During the 2017-18 outdoor GLIAC Championships, two student-athletes earned individual titles. Emma Schafer in the heptathlon and Jordan Stanford in the 400-meter hurdles.

Cook coached 38 WHAC champions in both sports along with a WHAC Outdoor Athlete of the Year in two seasons. He has also coached 11 athletes who have earned nine NAIA All-American honors.

In 2013-14, the program saw its biggest individual accomplishment as Tori' Brooks won the indoor and outdoor national championship in the high jump. It marked the first-ever NAIA title in any sport at the school. Brooks would go on to repeat his indoor title in the winter of 2015.

Academically, Cook's teams are top notch. He consistently has teams that are recognized by the USTFCCCA as All-Academic. In 2019-20, the men's team carried a 3.3 GPA, while the women's team compiled a 3.57 GPA in track and field. In addition, seven individual student-athletes were recognized as Academic All-Americans carrying a GPA of 3.3 or above.

Prior to Davenport, Cook was the head coach at Northwood University for six seasons. During his time at Northwood, he coached a dozen NCAA Division II All-Americans and two Academic All-Americans. Previous to NU, Cook served as assistant cross country and track & field coach at Grand Valley State University. Scott is a 1997 graduate of Bradley University where he lettered four years in cross country.

He is also a member of DU's Diversity Equity & Inclusion Committee and currently serves on the Athletic Advisory Board at DU.

He and his wife Beth reside in Alto, Mich. with their two children - Addison and Owen.
