At Davenport, Phillips has played a central role in building a highly competitive sprint program within the GLIAC. He coached Solomon King to a school record of 6.74 in the 60 meters, along with six GLIAC individual championships in 2024, including GLIAC Freshman of the Year and Indoor Freshman of the Meet honors. Phillips also guided Julia Tuuri to the 2024 GLIAC Outdoor Championship in the women’s 100 meters.

Previously, Phillips served as an assistant coach at Virginia Tech, where he helped lead the program to the 2025 ACC Indoor Men’s Team Championship. During that season, he coached multiple NCAA East Regional qualifiers, including men’s athletes in the 200m, 400m, 4x100m relay, and 4x400m relay, as well as women’s qualifiers in the 400m and 4x400m relay. His work also contributed to a historic milestone for the Hokies, as Caitlyn Bobb became Virginia Tech’s first women’s national qualifier in the 400 meters.

Phillips is recognized for his athlete-centered coaching philosophy, emphasis on technical excellence, and ability to prepare sprinters for success at the conference and national levels.
