Kurt Carter

Coach Carter is an active speaker at USA Hockey coaching seminars and symposiums and brings 15 years of coaching experience and passion with him to DU.

Director of Non-Varsity Sports and Programming, Ryan McCosky, was thrilled to announce the addition of Carter. "After interviewing multiple quality candidates, we are pleased about the addition of Kurt Carter to our Athletic Department. Kurt brings in a wealth of hockey experience, specifically experience in coaching women. Carter's passion and energy are infectious and we are glad to have him be a part of our staff."

Kurt attended Lawrence Academy in Groton, MA where he was a four sport Varsity Athlete and served as a captain in both football and hockey. After graduating from Lawrence Academy, Kurt played two seasons in juniors before playing both hockey and lacrosse in college, attending the University of Massachusetts for one year before finishing at Michigan State University.

He began coaching with his own kids including both of his Sons at the Assabet Valley Patriots and his Daughter at the Mass Spitfires and the past four years at Assabet Valley Girls Hockey. Most recently, Carter served as head hockey coach for the Medway/Ashland Girls' Varsity high school team. As the only head coach in the seven season program, Coach Carter built a successful program with a winning percentage of 64% (86-45-19) that qualified for the Massachusetts's Division I State Ice Hockey tournament in each of their first seven seasons. Coach Carter was named coach of the year three times in his seven years at the helm (2010, 2014, 2016). In the summer months, Kurt runs a skills program.

Kurt nurtures a team centered environment based on respect and trust while coaching with a focus on skill and character development. He emphasizes the importance of work ethic both on and off the ice and the results have been impressive with 100% player matriculation in college; Nine Shriner all-state all-stars; 26 all-league all-stars and 11 former players currently playing in college.Â
