Former Davenport University goalkeeper James Gilpin begins his second season as an assistant coach to the women’s soccer team, primarily focusing on guiding the goalkeepers. Gilpin returns to the Panthers after serving a similar role at Cornerstone University.
During his time with the Golden Eagles from 2011-12, Gilpin led the recruiting effort while coaching the goalkeeping staff.
Gilpin has been involved with coaching in the Grand Rapids area since 2009. He started out as the goalkeeping and founding director of the 3 Lions Soccer Academy. Since 2010, he has also served as the director of goalkeeping for the Grand Rapids Juniors while taking on a staff coaching role with Camp Shut-Out, a boys and girls teams at the U-15 level. Camp Shut-Out has become the United States largest goalkeeper camp.
A native of Newcastle, England, Gilpin played his freshman season for the Panthers in 2009. He made 15 appearances between the posts, going 7-7 with a 1.75 goals-against average.
